Dear Toney:
It was a pleasant surprise to get your interesting letter.
I wish we had met when you were in St. Louis, but that can happen
another time.
Your scrip notes are most unusual and I am glad you wish to
help in the Missouri project. When I get well I'11 list for you other
notes of South Central, Missouri, which I know of, You offered to photo-
graph your notes and I would like prints of each the exact size of the
originals. I suggest you soak the Hartsville notes in cold water for an
hour or so to remove their water stains and then straighten out the bent
over part at the left end of the $2, It will not hurt them. Dry them
between clean blotters or other flat absorbent paper.
Please tell me what the printed signature on the Hartsville
notes is as I can't read the last name. We have some Missouri duplicates
but we only trade for items we need and do not sell. There is a duplicate
Neosho item. If you would part with any of yours, I am sure we could
help each other.
Keep up the good work. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Eric P. Newman

Dear Toney:
Thank you for your interesting letters and your cooperation.
When you come to St. Louis, I will be pleased to try to take beautiful
photocopies of your notes and we can compare portions of our collections.
Let me know in advance in case I am out of town on business.
I would like to have as you suggested photos or photocopies of
any Arkansas notes payable in Missouri or in Missouri War Bonds. I am
familiar with the Stebbins collection publication, but it has poor illus-
trations.
I have a $2.50 Vickery and Adcock, also a $1 and $2 Roberts &
Ellis. If you are unable to buy the 25¢ Vickery and Adcock at a price
which pleases you, let me know and perhaps I can trade for it or buy it.
I have a Neosho $1 duplicate in case you think of something for exchange
with me,
The photocopy of my Arkansas Real Estate Bank is enclosed.
IL congratulate you on the interesting article on Howell County
money. With the other fascinating pictures and stories, I can underatand
why you are in your fifth printing.
My best to you.
Sincerely,
Eric P. Newnan
